Katmai National Park is located on the northeast coast of the Alaska Peninsula. It boasts the largest population of protected brown bears in the world. During the July salmon runs, Katmai's Brooks River is the focus of bears feeding in the park, providing visitors with unparalleled views of Alaskan brown bears.

Itinerary/Details

July & September Visitors:
These are the times of season when the greatest concentration of bears will migrate to the upper and lower areas of Brooks Falls for premium bear viewing opportunities.

June Visitors:
June is a great time in Katmai with its 19 hours of daylight allowing visitors to make the most of each day. Spring fishing on the world-renowned Brooks River and area lakes are "hot" for rainbow trout, grayling, lake trout and char. Opening day for fishing the Brooks River is June 8.

August Visitors:
August is another wonderful time for sportfishing on the Brooks River. The sockeye salmon are beginning to spawn and the rainbow trout, grayling and char are starting their "feeding frenzy" on salmon eggs abundant in the river.

Additional activities:
At Brooks Lodge you are just 22 miles from the volcanic "Valley of 10,000 Smokes", the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in modern history. Beautiful fjords, glaciers, waterfalls, and mountains round out the scenic wonders of the park. Daily tours are offered from the lodge. 

Accommodations: 
Guest accommodations consist of sixteen modern rooms all with showers, private toilet facilities, heat and electricity. Rooms accommodate 2-4 persons. Main lodge building boasts a spectacular view of aquamarine Naknek Lake with a large circular fireplace popular for relaxing and reminiscing about the day's adventures. Hearty Alaskan fare is served three times a day.

Getting to Brooks Lodge:
Visiting Brooks Lodge requires a flight via Pen Air from Anchorage to King Salmon with a float plane connection to/from Naknek Lake. Occasionally direct flight are booked from Anchorage to Brooks via Katmai Air. Your exact routing and flight duration will be scheduled at the time of booking.
