Itinerary/Details

Getting there:
Orca Island Cabins provides its own water-taxi service for its overnight guests. The nine mile cruise from the Seward Small Boat Harbor to Orca Island is itself a scenic wildlife cruise with many photo opportunities. Standard departure time (from Seward Small Boart Harbor) is at 12:30pm and return time (pick-up from Orca Island) is at 11:00am. Please note that departure and pick-up times are subject to change as circumstances necessitate.

About your accommodations:
Cabin/Yurt:
Twenty feet in diameter, these three self-contained, eco-friendly cabin structures on Orca Island have solar power and each feature a private bathroom with compost toilet, propane range and cabin heater, kitchen with dishes and basic cookware, dining area, living room, private deck and barbecue grill. Each cabin sleeps 2 to 4 persons with a queen bed and a futon. Linens are provided, including pillows, blankets and comforters.

Floating Cabin:

A 10' x 30' custom-built floating cabin dockside at Orca Island has solar power and offers a kitchen with dishes and basic cookware, dining area, bathroom, living room, lounging deck, propane range and cabin heater, and barbecue grill. The cabin sleeps two to four people with a double bed and loft with two single beds. Linens, including pillows, blankets and comforters, are provided.

Activities:

Situated in a protected cove, guests can enjoy kayaking, birdwatching, tidepool watching, fishing, exploring or just relaxing as wildlife comes into view both by land and sea. Observe black bears and mountain goats on the mountainside; bald eagles overhead; and Orcas (killer whales), humpback whales, Dall's porpoise, Harbor porpoise, Steller sea lions and sea otters, both in Humpy Cove and Resurrection Bay.

Another highlight for many visiting Orca Island is a kayak paddle to a stream in Humpy Cove where thousands of pink (humpy) salmon spawn each summer. A short hike along the stream takes you to a spectacular waterfall that cascades into an elevated pond. Humpy Cove is a popular kayaking venue due to its protected waters, scenic coastline and abundant wildlife. Single and double kayaks are available for use at Orca Island.

Optional add-ons:

Evening Scenic Wildlife Cruise:

Orca Island Cabins offers a 2 hour evening cruise to the bird rookery at Cape Resurrection and Barwell Island. See a sea lion haul-out, puffins, bald eagles, mountain goats, glaciers, rugged coastline, the outer waters of the Gulf of Alaska and we always look for whales - gray, killer (Orca), and humpback. Cost: $60.00 per person (minimum 4 guests although trip may be allowed for fewer with buy-out).

Fishing Charters:

Arrangements are available with fishing charters (for salmon or halibut) who will pick up and drop off our guests at Orca Island.
